What Is Fat Transfer/Nanofat?
Nanofat transfer and microfat transfer are two specified techniques for grafting fat to the face (or other areas) to improve the appearance of the skin. They are sometimes called autologous fat transfer or facial fat grafting. Through Nanofat transfer and microfat transfer, small amounts of fat in small particles are injected into areas of volume loss. The fat cells are processed and filtered so that it can be injected using a filler-sized injection needle, which is much smaller than those used for traditional fat transfer techniques.
Just 40-60 mL of excess fat are required to complete the Nanofat transfer procedure, on average. Because the procedure is completed using small needles, general anesthesia is not required, allowing for a much faster recovery compared to other options. The entire face can also be treated in a single session, including the temples, cheeks, under eyes, lower face, lips, or chin. Issues such as fine lines and wrinkles, sagging brows, or acne scars can also be addressed, as well as signs of aging in the hands. Nanofat transfer also pairs well with Colombian Liposculpture and can be completed simultaneously.
What's the Difference Between Nanofat and Fat Transfer?
Both Nanofat and fat transfer are procedures that use autologous fat grafting through liposuction. However, Nanofat includes extra steps to purify and process that fat into a finer consistency. It also goes through an emulsion procedure to isolate stem cells and growth factors. Whereas a traditional fat transfer procedure is used to add volume, Nanofat can be used to improve skin quality, signs of aging, scars, and discoloration.
Who is a Candidate for Fat Transfer/Nanofat?
This fat grafting procedure is an excellent option for patients who previously received or have considered dermal fillers but are looking for more permanent results. As long as you are generally healthy overall, you are likely a great candidate for Nanofat transfer. Nanofat differs from filler injections because it uses your own natural fat cells rather than ingredients like hyaluronic acid. This means that injected fat results will last significantly longer and there is no risk of allergic reaction.

How Long Does Fat Transfer/ Nanofat Last?

A small amount of injected fat may fail to establish a blood supply, meaning that your final results will be less prominent than what you see immediately after the fat injection procedure. However, once healing is complete and a majority of the transferred fat establishes a healthy blood supply, these results will last for many years.

How Long Does It Take to See Fat Transfer Results?
You will be able to see initial results right away, but it will take a few months to see your final results. This is because the transferred fat will need to establish blood vessels in the new area of the body, and some fat cells will not survive the process.
