As we age, our bodies become less effective at producing new collagen. Collagen is responsible for providing youthful volume and support, meaning the skin can begin to fold and wrinkle without it. Fortunately, fillers are one quick and easy way to restore volume under the skin to fill in signs of aging without the hassle of surgical procedures.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a dermal filler treatment made with hyaluronic acid, a complex sugar naturally found in your skin. Hyaluronic acid can effectively absorb large amounts of water, meaning it can provide natural-looking volume under the skin for effective rejuvenation. When Restylane is injected into areas of low volume, the crystal-clear gel provides natural support to fill in wrinkles and folds.

We offer the following types of Restylane dermal fillers at Eterna MD:

Restylane Contour

Restylane Contour is a specially designed cheek filler that provides structure to the cheeks while maintaining flexibility for a natural look and feel. Restylane Contour has earned its name because it can redefine facial structures by enhancing the cheekbones and filling in hollow cheeks.

Restylane® Defyne

Restylane Defyne is used to augment the jawline and improve the appearance of a double chin. The Defyne formula has a firmer structure but still maintains the flexibility to move naturally with your facial movements. It’s a great filler for moderate to severe nasolabial folds (laugh lines), chin wrinkles, and mild to moderate receded chin.

Restylane® Kysse

Restylane Kysse lip filler is made with crosslinked hyaluronic acid for a soft, flexible formula that works beautifully on delicate lips. Restylane Kysse can plump thin lips, smooth vertical lip lines, and enhance Cupid’s bow. It can also improve asymmetrical lips to give you a natural-looking, fuller pout.

Restylane® L

Restylane L, also called Restylane Lido or Restylane with Lidocaine, is designed to treat nasolabial folds and other moderate to severe wrinkles in the midface. Lidocaine is a numbing agent that makes the injections more comfortable. Before administering Restylane L, we can perform a skin test to make sure you do not have a lidocaine allergy.

Restylane® Lyft

Restylane Lyft improves age-related volume loss in the face and hands by adding structure and fullness to the skin. For facial rejuvenation, patients can improve the appearance of hollow cheeks and moderate to severe nasolabial folds. Hand rejuvenation is also a unique feature of Restylane Lyft. This filler can improve the appearance of thin or crepey hand skin and prominent tendons and veins caused by loss of skin elasticity and natural aging.

Restylane Refyne

Restylane Refyne has a structured yet flexible formula perfectly tailored to fill in moderate to severe nasolabial folds and other types of facial wrinkles. Refyne can be combined with other cheek fillers to simultaneously add volume and smooth wrinkles.

Who is a Candidate for Restylane Injections?

Good candidates for Restylane treatments are those looking for natural improvement in areas like the marionette lines, smile lines, lips, and areas of low volume in the midface. Restylane has a great safety track record, meaning most patients can benefit from filler treatments. During a consultation, our expert team can create the right treatment package for you to address your specific cosmetic goals. Many patients also benefit from injectable treatments like Botox® at the same time as filler treatments.

What Happens During Restylane Treatment?

Restylane can be easily administered right in our office. Although many patients can tolerate the injection process, we can supply a topical numbing cream to further alleviate discomfort. Using small, precise injections and a very fine needle, your injector will place the product under your skin in areas where you want to restore volume. You’ll see results immediately and can return home afterward. Overall, the process can take as little as 15 minutes.

How Long Does Restylane Last?

Restylane can last for up to 18 months, but this can depend on the treatment area. Areas, where you make lots of facial movements, can mean that the product is metabolized faster. When you’re ready for re-treatment, you can return to our office for a touch-up.

Restylane FAQs

Can Restylane cause blindness?

Although fillers are generally safe when administered by an experienced injector, there can be serious complications like blindness if not performed properly. Your expert injector will make sure you understand the risks during your consultation.

Can Restylane last for years?

The length of your results can depend on your specific type of injectable, but Restylane generally lasts for around one year. After your results begin to fade, you can opt for re-treatment.

Can you drink after Restylane?

Alcohol wont affect your long-term results with Restylane, but it can increase bruising and swelling after treatment. Generally, you should avoid drinking for a few days after your injection session.

Can you lay down after Restylane?

Its generally recommended to sleep in a slightly elevated position after your treatment session to decrease swelling and bruising.

Does Restylane settle?

Most fillers reach their best appearance at around three weeks. During this time, your results might appear fuller than intended because of swelling rather than the product itself.

Can you mix Juvederm and Restylane?

Yes, it is possible to mix Juvederm and Restylane injections to achieve the results you want. Your injector will recommend the best product, or products, for you.

Do Restylane bumps go away?

After treatment, some patients may notice small lumps or bumps from their Restylane injections. These should go away naturally within a couple of weeks. If bumps persist, your injector can use hyaluronidase injections to dissolve them.

Does Restylane help dark circles?

Restylane and other dermal fillers can be injected into the tear trough below the eyes to help reduce shadows or dark circles.

Does Restylane improve over time?

Restylane results are noticeable soon after treatment and eventually fade as the product is naturally broken down. On average, Restylane lasts about six to nine months.

How long does it take for Restylane to take effect?

Most patients will see their Restylane effects immediately after their procedure. Some swelling can persist for up to a week, meaning you will see your true results later.

Does Restylane work immediately?

Technically, yes, although the formula will spread slightly throughout your skin over the course of a few days before effectively giving you the longer-term results you were after.

How long do Restylane fillers last?

It depends on the amount of filler and the treatment area. Most Restylane fillers like Lyft last up to 6 months. Areas of more muscle movement, such as the lips, might not last as long and vice versa.
